THE GOODMANWave Theory

Markets move in 1-2-3s. Learn to read them the way Charlie Goodman did.

A Goodman buy setup off a down Jumbo A long down Jumbo swing ends; from its Ending Point a small 1-2-3 forms in the opposite direction; that 1-2-3 becomes the first swing of a larger one, whose third swing is traded up through the Jumbo's Tipping Point. 1 2 3 Down Jumbo A 1-2-3 forms here The propagated ‘3’ Jumbo TP
Find the Jumbo. Wait for the 1-2-3. Trade the propagated ‘3’ — it runs at least to the Jumbo’s Tipping Point. Schematic, not to scale.

Everything is a 1-2-3

Charlie Goodman read a market as a buyer-seller struggle. The struggle resolves in three swings, and the resolved structure becomes the first swing of a larger one. That is the whole of it, repeated at every scale.

A swing

A move from a Beginning Point to an Ending Point. Its midpoint is the Tipping Point.

The Goodman Library

Charles B. Goodman spent forty years reading markets as buyer-seller struggles that resolve in 1-2-3s. Michael Duane Archer learned it at his desk. These are the books.

Where are the two take-profits?

TP missed by 1 Under Over

The first swing ran 10 units. The correction gave back 6, so it stopped 1 unit short of the Tipping Point. The measured move puts the third swing 10 above that TP. At what two levels do you take profit, and which comes first?

Show the answer

The Under sits at 9 (10 − 1) and the Over at 11 (10 + 1) — the same 1 unit the correction missed by, carried to the far end. The Under is taken first, for half the position, with the order reduced by the spread. There is no known way to tell in advance which of the two will be reached.

Source and technique

The Trader’s Playbook

The Molokai setup, in one hundred hands.

One printed volume on one setup, written to be followed with a chart open rather than read in an armchair. Find the Jumbo. Watch a 1-2-3 form at its Ending Point. Watch that 1-2-3 become the first swing of a larger one. Take the swing the structure has already earned, and close it by rule.

It refuses to teach you everything, and that is the point. Charlie’s favourite setup, taught to the end: entry, initial stop-loss, initial take-profit, what to do when the trade runs past the Over count, and the thirty-trade account you use to find out whether you can actually execute any of it. The theory sits in the appendices so the chapters stay a procedure.

It comes with the source files referenced in the book and a sixty-minute consultation with the authors — study it first, take notes, then book the call.

Numbered and signed, in an edition of one hundred. No more will be printed, and the number on your title page is the proof.

The authors

Author

Michael Duane Archer

Fifty years in the markets, eleven of them working directly under Charlie Goodman. He writes the method as he was taught it, in the first person, with the trades attached.

Goodman Master

Mohamed Ahmed

Archer’s student, and co-author of the Playbook. A private full-time trader who came to the markets through risk rather than through charts — an academic grounding in the discipline, and the credentials that go with it: PMI-RMP, GRCP, FRM.

The list

One letter, when there is something to say

Charlie wrote to his students. We do the same: a new plate, a chart worth looking at, a note when a book is finished. No schedule, no sequence, no selling to you every Tuesday. Leave when you like.

We keep the list ourselves. It is never sold, rented or shared.
